Bakemono Kyu

化け物球

‘Monster sphere’ is a specially crafted Pokéball device using the DNA of the 'Ditto' Pokémon and an extremely rare and very special  apricorn named the ‘Ghost Apricorn’. There is a group called the ‘Monster Team’ or 'Bakemono Han' who seek out these rare apricorns with the sole purpose of creating ‘Bakemono Kyu’ in order to catch powerful Pokémon who will immediately abide by their every command.

Once an apricorn is successfully crafted into its exact specifications by the master builder it is intentionally infused with an ‘Obake’, Japanese for spirit or ghost through a mysterious ritual performed at the site where the Apricorn was harvested. The reason for performing the ritual at the site of harvest is to acquire a piece of the soul of the Pokémon that caused the Ghost apricorn to grow as these rare apricorns only grow on bushes at the gravesites of past Pokémon. This ritual is once thought to have been long forgotten, snuffed out by a group, hell bent on eradicating the ‘Monster team’ and their ideologies.

The ball resembles a transparent modern day Pokéball with an ominous liquid inside. This liquid is clear, but upon performing the ritual it begins to spoil and take on a pinkish hue that looks somewhat desaturated.

People have long believed that a Pokéball of this magnitude far exceeds that of even a Masterball because of its special qualities. When a Pokémon is captured using a ‘Bakemono Kyu’ the ominous liquid that is inside the ball seeps out and forms a tough exterior around the ball that resembles the Pokémon contained within it.

This exterior not only takes on the aesthetic features of the Pokémon but also mirrors the battle damage inflicted upon the Pokémon during battle when it returns to its ‘Bakemono Kyu’. The sphere will also heal itself and the Pokémon it contains over a short period of time while you continue on your journey thus reducing the need to visit Pokémon centres.
